Before we continue i must warn you that on this page contains a translation sheet of the dwarvish runes used throughout middle earth.If you wish to figure them out for yourself then do not look at this page, instead look at the first few pages of 'The Hobbit' book by J.R.R.Tolkien.

Dwarves
Dwarves are the most wonderful stone-carvers and metal workers of all of middle earth.A powerful,rugged and long-bearded race,between 4 and 5 feet high,much used to working in mines and foundries.Fierce and stubborn when provoked in battle,Dwarves were master forgers of arms and armour.

Dwarfish Runes
For thousands of years Dwarves have used Runes for cutting or scratching into wood,stone or metal.But at the time that middle earth was around the Dwarves made use of them by using them for their secret records which they kept hidden away in their Mining Colonies.
Mining Colonies
Mining Colonies are Dwarf kingdoms deep in side the hearts of mountains.An example of these mines is that of the 'Mines Of Moria' in 'The Fellowship Of The Ring'.These mines are usually hidden behind a gate or secret door which can only be seen when the star/moonlight shines on them,a picture of one of these secret doors can be found on the photo page.
